while on sabbatical, i read way more than i had in a long time. grad school may have been the last time i read this much, but even in grad school, i’m not sure i read this much in this way. reading academic articles and books is really different than reading like this.

relationship styles: independent, dependent, interdependent, co-dependent and counter-dependent

some time in 2023, my therapist shared with me the concept of a counter-dependent relationship. i was a little shook that i hadn’t heard or thought about that as a concept. when i said as much, he named that there’s a whole range of relationship styles: independent, dependent, interdependent, co-dependent and counter-dependent. it was really helpful in the session and i looked it up afterwards. i found this blog post and wanted to share these different styles because it’s been a helpful framework through which i think about all sorts of relationships now.

color the water: my first surfing lesson

i went surfing yesterday for the first time. and holy shit was it fun! you know those moments when you realize your life has been forever changed? well, this was one of them for me. wow. it was such a powerful experience i don’t even know how to start. everything just wants to tumble out of me at once. maybe i’ll write a little bulletted list of all the thoughts and then expand as i can.
